There is a stark beauty about the desert. There is a certain light that you don’t get anywhere else. There are colors that emerge against the earth tones of rock and sand that feel different. My good friend Thomas Lichtenwalter and I seem to be drawn to desert landscapes and always make the time to explore the areas we know and venture into unknown areas when he comes to visit from Germany each year. We founded Red Throne International Photography with the vision that the two of us enhancing each other will bring a new dimension to each of us as individual photographers. And when we are together it always gets our juices flowing which sharpens our eye and creativity for our professional gigs. This year we brainstormed what you will see here. We wanted something raw, something native, and who better to incorporate than my very own Gino with his native American roots. Jeremy and Ana Lucero, of Lucero Photography, came along and made it all the more fun! A special thanks to both of them who did most of the makeup. Jeremy’s words still ring in my ear: “you can’t rush art.” We had a mere one and a half hours to shoot before the sun went down, so in that sense we had to rush art. A special thanks to Gino as well who was a real trooper dealing with the cold and three photographers going a little bit crazy on him. I add some images captured a couple days earlier in Joshua Tree during a day trip with my gorgeous sister, Angie. Please enjoy!
